How much does it cost to move from Halifax to Quebec City? $4,200 – 5,000 for a 2-bedroom.
That is our price for 950 km on a dedicated 15 ft truck with two movers, before HST. A studio is $3,800 – 4,000. Quebec City to Halifax costs the same. Below: what is in that number, what moves it up or down, and how it compares with doing it another way.
Halifax ↔ Quebec City by home size
Before HST. Same price in both directions.
One number, nothing added later
- Two movers to load and unload
- A 15 ft truck with only your things on it
- The drive, 950 km each way, and the fuel
- The crew's hotel on the road
- Tolls, blankets and straps
- A text from every stop on the way
Nothing is added afterwards for kilometres or gas. The only thing that can add to the price is time on site beyond the plan.
What moves your price up or down
How much you own. This matters most. A tidy 1-bedroom and a packed 1-bedroom with a storage locker are different loads. It decides how long loading takes and whether everything fits on one truck.
Getting in and out. A ground-floor door with the truck out front is fast. A third-floor walk-up, a long carry from the street, or an elevator you share with the rest of the building is slower, at either end.
Big and awkward pieces. Sectionals, king beds, treadmills and anything that has to come apart to get through a door add time. Tell us about them and they are in the plan, not a surprise. Here is what we don't move.
How you book. Booking online takes $10 off. A 60-second video walk-through turns the band into one fixed number and takes another $15 off.
Four ways to get from Halifax to Quebec City
A dedicated truck (us)
How it's priced: one flat price for the truck, the crew and the drive.
When it arrives: a set date, 2 days after loading.
Who lifts: we do, both ends.
Good for: a full apartment or house, a firm move-in date, and anyone who does not want to drive a truck 950 km.
Rent a truck and drive it
How it's priced: a one-way rental rate that changes with the season and the direction, plus fuel, plus your own hotel and meals.
When it arrives: when you do. It is about 10 hours of driving, so plan on two days.
Who lifts: you, both ends.
Good for: small loads and tight budgets. Budget roughly 230 litres of gas for a loaded 15 ft truck, and ask the rental company for the full one-way price for your dates before you compare.
A shared-load van line
How it's priced: by the weight of your shipment, which is measured after loading.
When it arrives: inside a delivery window, often one to three weeks, because your things share a trailer with other households.
Who lifts: they do.
Good for: large homes going a long way when the delivery date is flexible. Ask for a binding price and the delivery window in writing.
A moving container
How it's priced: per container, plus delivery and pickup at each end.
When it arrives: on the carrier's schedule, usually a week or more.
Who lifts: you, unless you hire help. We can load or unload it for you at the Halifax end.
Good for: people who need storage in the middle, or time to pack slowly.
Load on day one, deliver on day 2
950 km is about 10 hours of driving. The crew loads in the morning, drives until early evening, and stops for the night with the truck locked beside them. Delivery is the next afternoon. See every stop on the Halifax → Quebec City page.
